Conservatory, Advanced & Pre-Professional Classical Ballet Training for Children & Teens

Conveniently located in the heart of Southern Westchester County, NY, Scarsdale Ballet Studio offers unique opportunities for very committed ballet students who wish to make dance their primary after-school activity. Whether aspiring to a professional career in dance or planning to pursue their dance studies in college, Conservatory and Pre-Professional students have the unique privilege to study and perform George Balanchine ballets. Our advanced dancers are consistently accepted into the most prestigious summer intensives, college programs, and professional companies. Committed students are also welcome to discuss participating in the Youth America Grand Prix Competition.
Fourth Division Conservatory, Advanced & Pre-Professional Ballet for ages 10-18
Our Fourth Division Conservatory, Advanced & Pre-Professional classes are geared toward serious dance students who have a thorough understanding of ballet terminology and technique. Our faculty will teach and mentor each student towards the fulfillment of their specific dance goals, whether it be a professional career, college admission, or simply for the physical, emotional and artistic rewards of formal dance training.
Dress Code For Girls – Tank-style black leotard, pink tights and slippers, long hair in a neat bun, short hair in a headband away from the face. No legwarmers, t-shirts or sweatshirts. Conservatory students wear dark purple leotards. Black or White practice tutus are required for Pointe 3, YAGP rehearsal, Partnering, and Balanchine Variations classes.
Conservatory I – Requirements are to take a minimum of 3 Ballet Technique classes per week and strongly encouraged to take 1 enrichment class (Character or Stretch/Tone). Must attend the required minimum of Ballet Technique classes per week, unless special permission has been obtained from Director. New private students must be full-time Scarsdale Ballet Studio students.
Conservatory II – Students are required to take a minimum of 4 Ballet Technique classes per week, a Pointe and Variations class at least once a week and at least 1 enrichment class (Character). All Pointe classes must be preceded by a Ballet Technique class. We also encourage participation in Concertdance and The Nutcracker. Must attend the required minimum of Ballet Technique classes per week, unless special permission has been obtained from Director. New private students must be full-time Scarsdale Ballet Studio students.
Advanced & Pre-Professional – Highly recommend 3-4 Ballet Technique classes per week. Very challenging course for dancers ages 14 and up, who have at least 5 years of training at Scarsdale Ballet Studio or equivalent. Classical repertoire and Balanchine repertoire will be studied. Pre-professional dancers are expected to take class on a daily basis. New students must be evaluated by a faculty member before being admitted. Pointe and Variations, Modern, Contemporary, Stretch/Tone and Concertdance are encouraged. On days when no Pointe class is scheduled, Pointe will be incorporated into the Ballet Technique class. All Pointe classes must be preceded by a Ballet Technique class.
