The Youth America Grand Prix, the subject of the recent award-winning documentary film, “First Position” is the world’s largest student ballet competition, granting scholarships to the world’s most famous professional ballet academies as well as professional apprentice contracts. Last weekend, Sophia Romagnoli of the Scarsdale Ballet Studio competed in the YAGP Semi-Finals in Philadelphia in the Pre-Competitive Division, in both the Contemporary/Open and Classical Variations categories.  As the youngest competitor, she placed in the top twelve in her level and qualified to compete in the Final Round of YAGP in New York City in April 2013.  Out of approximately 5000 international competitors in the Semi-Finals, which are held in Europe, Asia, and the Americas, only 300 students advance to the New York Finals. Sophia was coached by Diana White and Carmen Banu.
